Mid age African American female presented for implant consult for site #14,19,30. Site #19 has a very unique radio-opaque lesion while site #14 and #30 look like a very radio-opaque porous bone. It reminds me of focal or maybe florid cemento-osseous dysplasia learned back in dental school. This pathology is also more common in mid age African American females. Any thought? If it is, then I would recommend bridge over implants due to a high chance of poor healing and complications. thanks!

That is kind of what it looks like to me, so definitely a good differential diagnosis. I always have either oral radiology or oral pathology weigh in as well because they are the true true experts.

In this case, yes– I would recommend a bridge over doing any type of implant or bone modification in those areas.

Wow what a great case to share! Do the other areas have that same presentation? Having that shell of cortical bone with nothing inside?

If so, I’d avoid them.
