I have a pt with terminal dentition on the mandible…. We are planning on extracting 11 teeth… placing six implants and likely loading them( planned for a FP3) zirconia…. My concern is that fixed zirconia prosthesis against a natural dentition…. She is 55 years young….. mild parafunction…would I be better off putting her in a removable implant overdenture ??
You’re right to be concerned about opposing natural dentition as that is one of the biggest risk factors. This is the article that explains the big ones — > https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22133392/
However, given that it is mandible, and honestly men have a greater complication rate than women, I would say that the treatment should have a good prognosis even though it’s opposing natural teeth.
Overdentures are much easier to deal with and I’m sort of favoring them now however. I think you can’t go wrong with either option.
It comes down to patient and doctor preference!
